Ask Cheryl | Exactly what are Facial Fillers?

Q: My friends talk about getting fillers in their face; what exactly are fillers?

A: Fillers are compounds that are injected into various parts of the face to “fill” line and wrinkles and to replace lost volume.

Fillers will instantly smooth away the deeper lines along the sides of your nose and mouth.  They can also be injected into the cheeks to provide a “liquid facelift” to lift the lower face and provide more fullness in the upper face.  Fillers are also used to plump up lips and to give them ore definition.

Most fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a clear gel withich derived from a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body.  Juvederm and Restylane are the most common brand names.  Fillers are extremely safe and the results are natural looking.  There is lidocaine, a numbing agent, in the syringe so injection are not painful, and the results will last between six months to two years.
