Ask Cheryl | Eyelid Surgery to Eliminate Bags under Eyes

Q I have bags and dark circles under my eyes that make me look old and tired. Is there a product I can use to make them go away.

A I wish it were that easy; unfortunately, there are no topical products that will truly help with bags under eyes. Bags under the eyes are caused by an accumulation of fat. This hereditary; chances are good that your mother or father had the same condition.

The dark circles start to form under the bags because the surrounding blood vessels can no longer as easily due to the presence of the fat.

The solution is to have a lower lid blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, to remove the fat. The skin under the eyes can also be tightened if needed. After surgery, you look totally natural and look like yourself, but younger and refreshed. This surgery takes one hour and is performed under a local block; no sedation is necessary.

The first step is a consultation at SkinHealth with Dr. Daniel Townsend, an ophthalmic plastic surgeon. You want to find a surgeon who has lots of specific experience with eyelid surgery, and Dr. Townsend has successfully performed over 10,000 of these procedures.
