Ask Cheryl | Microdermabrasion: What is it?

Q: Exactly what is microdermabrasion and how do I know if it is right for me?

A: Microdermabrasion is an excellent procedure for all skin types.  It provides gentle, yet effective exfoliation  which removes dead skin cells as well as excess oil.

If you have oily skin, left untreated, these dead skin cells will clog pores, which may lead to pimples or blackheads. If you have a normal or dry skin, the removal of these dead skin cells gives your skin a healthy glow and improved texture.  Over time, microdermabrasion stimulates new collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine linens and uneven skin tone.

There are two types of microdermabrasion and we have both available at SkinHealth Centers.  A traditional microdermabrasion treatment, has a handpiece that delivers a stream of very fine mineral crystals to buff away the outermost layer of dead skin cells.  An alternative form of microdermabrasion uses diamond tips to achieve the same result. In both types, the handpiece also provides suction to simultaneously vacuums away the exfoliated cells and excess oil.

Immediately after your treatment you will see a nice difference – your skin will have a fresh glow and feel smoother and softer.
