Ask Cheryl: Acupuncture for Seasonal Allergies

Posted on Apr 27, 2012 3:28:00 PM

Q:   This time of year I suffer from allergies due to all the pollen in the air.  My eyes are itchy, my nose runs, I’m miserable.  I take the usual allergy medications but hate the side effects.  A friend of mine suggested acupuncture.  Acupuncture really????

A:   YOU BET. Up to 30% of Americans are bothered by seasonal allergies, and   acupuncture can be a very effective treatment for providing relief.  While spring and summer are the seasons of the year that bring us outdoors, many people are unable to enjoy these warmer months due to uncomfortable symptoms.

Acupuncture Allergy Treatment

While over-the-counter medications often come with unwanted side effects, such as drowsiness, acupuncture does not.  This makes it a welcome alternative for people looking for a new way to combat allergies this season.

Acupuncture is defined as a method of preventing and treating disease, illness, injury or pain by allowing the body to heal naturally and improve the way it functions.  This is done by stimulating biologically significant points on the surface of the body with tiny needles.  The needles are so tiny that there is no pain or discomfort, and treatments can be performed once a week, or as often as three times a week.

In addition to treating allergies, acupuncture can be extremely effective for many other types of discomfort and pain.  Give us a call and we are happy to provide a free consultation.  Or simple schedule it on line (click below).
