Introduction to

The first Facelift-type procedure was performed in 1901 in Germany by surgeon Eugen Hollander, in which Dr. Hollander lifted the cheeks and mouth of a Polish patient. Since then, it’s safe to say that facial modifications have come a very long way. Nowadays, some techniques are frequently used that don’t even require invasive surgery, such as BOTOX and Dermal Fillers. While these injectables are great temporary solutions to sagging facial skin, they eventually get reabsorbed into the body and you’re back to square one. SkinHealth Centers offer an alternative, longer-lasting solution to a more youthful appearance for our Boston area patients with Thread lifts. This treatment can last for almost two years and is a wonderful option for patients who are hesitant to go under the knife.

What are Threadlifts?

A Threadlift is a non-surgical procedure created to treat sagging facial skin, which is one of the major contributors to an aged and tired appearance. With the help of a medical-grade thread placed under your skin to pull it into position, this treatment redefines the contours of your mid-face by lifting the deeper layers of your skin for a more youthful look.

At both of our SkinHealth Centers, we primarily use InstaLift, the first minimally invasive method for lifting and repositioning the subdermal (underlying) tissue of the face. This 21st-century facelift is performed without surgery to increase and restore volume to your mid-face and cheek area, creating a natural-looking and more youthful appearance.

Cleared by the FDA in April 2015, InstaLift uses resorbable suspension sutures that are made from glycolide / L-lactide (PLGA – a polymer that is frequently used in medical devices and is well tolerated by the body) and bi-directional cones. The sutures lift and reposition the tissue while the bi-directional cones hold the suture and facial skin in an elevated position. The outcome is immediate, with results getting better over time.

What are the benefits of Threadlifts?

We have seen our Boston Threadlift patients enjoy some of these benefits:

  • Can be a gradual progression
  • Enhanced appearance
  • Immediate results
  • Little-to-no side effects
  • Minimal downtime
  • Natural-looking fullness
  • Non-invasive
  • Quick recovery
  • Redefines facial contours
  • Treatments are safe and effective

Who are the best candidates for Threadlifts?

InstaLift is the ideal minimally invasive solution for many men and women who are interested in refreshing their appearance without major surgery, injections, or lasers. It offers a new and unique technology to lift sagging facial skin. Suitable candidates have good skin quality, with moderate sagging of the skin in the mid-face, are positive and realistic about the procedure results, and do not have any pre-existing conditions that could be dangerous. Unfortunately, patients with an auto-immune disease are not recommended for this treatment.

What to expect on the day of a Threadlift?

Your physician will only use a local anesthetic to numb the area before inserting the sutures. During the procedure, a specially-trained physician will begin by marking the areas of desired lift on the patient. He/she will then gently insert a needle to a depth of 5mm and guide it through the subcutaneous tissue and extract at each bi-directional exit point. The sutures have bi-directional absorbable cones that hold them in place.

The treatment is generally well tolerated by patients and typically takes 45 minutes.

What’s the first Step?

The first step in getting a Threadlift in Boston is to contact your nearest SkinHealth Centers location and schedule a consultation with a member of our Aesthetic team. When you come in, you will be able to ask any questions you may have about the procedure and express your goals for the procedure. The physician will ask you about your medical history and perform a facial evaluation. When discussing your medical background, please be very open and honest as this will help prevent any unnecessary risks or side effects.

Once all of this information has been gathered, the physician will create your treatment plan. If you agree with the plan, our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your procedure date and provide you with some instructions to follow that will help you have the most successful Threadlift possible.

Threadlift Recovery

The recovery time from Threadlifts is very minimal. You may experience some minor pain, swelling, and bruising, as well as a potential minimal acute inflammatory tissue reaction, during the first 24 – 48 hours. Still, you should be able to do most of your daily activities. We do advise that you avoid rubbing your face for the first week after your procedure to avoid dislodging the threads, as well as avoid pursing your lips, smoking, or using a straw when drinking for the next several weeks.

After a few weeks, you can return to a workout routine, but you should ease back into it. You will also want to avoid saunas and sleeping on your side. When sleeping, we recommend using a propped pillow to avoid accidentally rolling onto your face in the middle of the night.

How Much Do Threadlifts Cost in Boston?

The cost of a Threadlift in Boston is dependent on several factors, including how much of a change is required to achieve your desired look. When you come in for your consultation and a treatment plan is created for you, our Patient Coordinator will be able to provide you with a price breakdown.
