Indeed, it seems everyone is doing it, from celebrities to your next-door neighbors, everyone is putting a plump in their lip, to enhance what mother nature gave you! When you come to either one of the SkinHealth Centers in the Boston area for Lip Fillers, you can rest assured that you’ll be leaving here with results that you can be proud of. To learn more about the treatment, what we offer, and how it can help you, please keep reading below.
If you wish for a little more volume in your lips, cosmetic Lip Fillers can give you luscious and natural–looking lips. The subtle and soft, yet definitive changes are made by adding definition to the vermilion borders of the lips and perhaps into the ridges of the nasal philtrum. The vermilion border is the upper ridge of the upper lip and the lower ridge of the lower lip. The nasal philtrum, which is normally grooved, is the ridge area between the nose and lips.
It takes just a small amount of filler injected by an experienced doctor or nurse to produce an amazing result. Because most people just need a little, it’s an affordable option for everyone! To ensure a smooth, natural look and feel, SkinHealth Centers™ uses advanced dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring compound found in your skin. With the right technique, it doesn’t even hurt!
We have seen our Boston Lip Filler patients enjoy some of these benefits:
The advanced hyaluronic fillers used by SkinHealth’s Harvard-trained, board-certified physicians and nurses, include JUVEDERM® and RESTYLANE®. For JUVEDERM®, there is Ultra XC and the recently introduced VOLBELLA® XC.
In addition to dermal fillers, BOTOX® may be used to help roll the lips outward, accentuating the results. Also known as a “Lip Flip”, BOTOX® placement can also add definition and make thinner, flatter lips look more pleasing. Your provider will inject the botulinum toxin into the corners of your mouth (oral commissures) and the edges of your lips (vermillion border), which will relax the muscles around your upper lip, causing it to “flip” upward a tiny bit and appear larger than normal.
As a part of the aging process, many individuals begin to develop an exaggerated frown, as the corners of the mouth turn down and lines extending from the corners of the downturned lips (oral commissure lines) develop. Many individuals also have lines that fan out from the corners of the mouth.
To diminish oral commissure lines and gently lift the corners of the mouth, some physicians will place advanced dermal fillers such as JUVEDERM® or RESTYLANE® into the oral commissures, oral commissure lines and/or into the lips around the corners of the mouth. Some physicians will also place BOTOX® in an area that is a little below and to the outside of the oral commissures, or along the jawline, to help lift the lateral aspects of the mouth. These techniques will gently lift the corners of the mouth. They will also help fill in the oral commissures to return a more natural and friendly look, non-surgically.
*Individual results may vary.
When you get your Lip Fillers, a topical anesthetic is first applied to your lips to provide a more comfortable experience. After about 15 minutes, your lips should be numb and we can begin the treatment. A thin needle is used to inject the lip filler into targeted parts of your lips, including the vermillion border (edges of your lips), your Cupid’s bow (the curve in the center of your upper lip), and the corners of your mouth. You shouldn’t feel any pain, but many patients do feel a pinching sensation from the needle injection, which can cause some eyes to tear up.
After the injections are complete, you will be given an ice pack to gently rest on your lips to prevent excessive swelling and bruising. The medical aesthetician or provider will also gently massage your lips so that they can absorb the filler. You will be kept at our office for about 15 minutes to ensure that you don’t get dizzy or nauseous, and there there is no substantial bleeding.
The treatment can take anywhere between 30 minutes and two hours.

The first step in getting Boston-based Lip Fillers is to contact the nearest SkinHealth Centers location in Boston or just outside the city in Wellesley Hills and request a consultation. During this appointment, you will have your lips examined by one of our providers who will ask you questions about your medical history, what sort of appearance you are looking to achieve, and which filler could be the best for you. If you agree with the plan made for you, the provider can give your Lip Filler injection immediately, or you can reschedule with our Patient Coordinator for another day and time.
If you do plan on getting Lip Fillers the same day as your consultation, we strongly recommend that you avoid wearing lipstick or lip balm of any kind, as it will have to be removed before the injection can begin.
After you are done with the treatment and you’ve had enough time to ice your lips, you will be able to return home. Your lips will be swollen, bruised, and pretty sensitive for the first few days. Hence, we strongly recommend taking it easy during that time and avoiding any strenuous activities, or pursing your lips, kissing, or using a straw. To have a better recovery, we will provide you with instructions, such as:
The cost of Lip Fillers in Boston will vary depending on a number of factors, including which filler you use and how much filler is used. After your consultation and treatment plan are created for you, our Patient Coordinator will be able to give you a price breakdown for your experience.
