Introduction to

Sculptra

While there are many different “collagens” available to the market (i.e. facial creams, oral collagen), they are unfortunately unable to penetrate the skin’s dermal layer, thus, failing to meet the mark. When you go to a Medical Spa and get Dermal Fillers, there are many options available there as well, but what if you have an allergy to some of the ingredients in the product? What are you to do then? Well, at SkinHealth Centers in both Boston and Wellesley Hills, we offer Sculptra as a hypo-allergenic option! To learn more about this unique product, please keep reading the information we have provided below.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a Poly-L-Lactic Acid filler that has been FDA-approved for cosmetic enhancements. It is biocompatible and biodegradable, with notable usage in the U.S. since 1999.

Sculptra can be injected into the temple area, cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionettes, and jawline to help restore lost facial volume to the entire face. After it’s injected, the filler is gradually absorbed into your facial tissue which promotes new collagen production. The results are gradual and subtle, helping to recreate that youthful fullness and glow to your face.

What to Expect on the Day of Sculptra

Your Sculptra treatment will take place in our boutique practice, where you will be administered either local anesthesia, topical cream, or cold compress to numb the area and ensure minimal discomfort, depending on what you discuss during your consultation.

Once you are both prepared, your Provider will use a very thin needle and syringe to inject strategic amounts of the Sculptra solution into the targeted areas. This will encourage the production of collagen to give your face a smooth, firm texture. Your specialist may finish your session with a mini-massage in the treatment area, along with directions on how to properly massage yourself at home.

Your entire session should take a little under an hour, which is how it garnered the nickname, the “lunch break” procedure.

What’s the first Step?

The first step in getting Sculptra treatments in Boston is to contact SkinHealth Centers. When you come in for your appointment, you will meet with a member of our team who has been certified and trained in the injectable procedure. You will be able to express your desires from the treatment and ask any questions you may have, as well as receive an evaluation of your face. It is essential to be open and honest when having your consultation as the information you provide helps your provider avoid unnecessary risks.

After your discussion, a procedure plan will be created for you and if you agree with it, you will be able to get your Sculptra injection performed immediately. If for whatever reason you feel like you need some more time, our Patient Coordinator will be able to help you reschedule.

Sculptra Recovery

After your treatment, you will be able to return to your day but keep in mind that you may experience redness, swelling, tenderness, mild pain, or bruising. These symptoms can be alleviated with a cold pack during the first 24 hours post-treatment. You should see results practically immediately, but we often suggest several treatments performed once a month to achieve the most optimal results. The exact number of treatments needed will be determined during your consultation but could change depending on how your body reacts to the injections.

You are expected to use the massage technique you learned on the treated area using the 5-5-5 Rule: 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This massage helps distribute the Sculptra evenly and ensures there are no areas of a concentrated product. The skin of the treated area(s) will look more toned, smoother, and in some cases, even have a cellulite reduction.
