As we age our skin changes, and over time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish as wrinkles and folds form, however, with injectable facial fillers, you don’t have to just sit back and let it happen! SkinHealth Centers has two convenient locations to provide some incredible Dermal Filler results to our Boston patients. If you are looking for more volume and smoother skin, this treatment could be perfect for you! Below we have included information about the treatment as well as the types of Dermal Fillers we offer.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are FDA-regulated, gel-like substances that are injected under your skin to create a smoother and fuller appearance. There are several different types of fillers, such as Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin, and Calcium-Based Fillers, in which calcium-based microspheres are used for deep dermal injections and may require administration of some local anesthetic before treatment. Hyaluronic Acid fillers will last up to 12 months while Calcium-Based fillers can last twelve months or more.

What are the benefits of Dermal Fillers?

At both of our Boston area SkinHealth Centers, our team has seen the following benefits from Dermal Fillers:

  • Boosts your confidence
  • Can be combined with other treatments
  • Increases collagen and elastin production
  • Long-lasting results
  • Low risks or side effects
  • No recovery time
  • Produces subtle but effective results
  • Reduces the scar appearance
  • Results show up quickly

Restylane uses a specific Hyaluronic Acid formula that is non-animal sourced, making this a “vegan-friendly” alternative to other dermal fillers and is one of the first FDA-approved HA fillers. This filler is a great way to add structure to your skin while correcting moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Many of our patients have been able to see the effects of their Restylane treatment for up to 18 months.

Juvederm uses Hyaluronic Acid to restore and refill the depleted naturally occurring HA, which helps improve wrinkles, creases, and volume loss. The filler can seamlessly flow through the lines of your skin to create a smoother and more natural look and feel. Although temporary, most Juvederm patients can see results from the treatment last between 12 and 18 months from one 15-minute treatment.

Belotero is a very versatile filler that is known for its ability to integrate itself into your skin’s sub-dermal structure and create soft and subtle results. It is often used for deep nasolabial folds, as well as more delicate areas such as the fine lines above your lip and the hollows of your eyes. The Hyaluronic Acid formula adds volume to your facial contours and also hydrates your skin, giving you a more vibrant and brighter complexion. The Belotero treatment will take less than 30 minutes and can last anywhere between six and 12 months, depending on how quickly your body absorbs it.

Radiesse stands out from the other three as it is made of calcium-based micro-spheres that are suspended in a water-based gel. It is a biocompatible, non-toxic, and non-allergenic filler that is injected into your skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure giving you immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, and providing long-lasting and beautiful results. In some cases, Radiesse can even be used as a temporary substitute for Rhinoplasty by filling in the nasal imperfections, filling in hollow cheeks, reshaping your chin or jawline, and even plumping up aging hands. Our Boston patients between the ages of 35 and 65 who use Radiesse are typically able to see up to an 80% improvement in their appearance after just one week. On average, most patients can enjoy their results for up to 15 months from one 15 – 30 minute treatment.

Who are the best candidates?

The best candidates for Dermal Fillers in Boston are patients who share the following characteristics:

  • Keeps a positive and realistic attitude regarding the outcome of the treatment
  • Nonsmokers
  • Not ready for or interested in surgery
  • Overall healthy
  • Practice good skin health routines

You could also be a great candidate for Dermal Fillers if you are looking to treat the following:

  • Deep nose-to-mouth lines
  • Minor nose deformities
  • Receding chin
  • Sunken or thinning cheeks
  • Thin or uneven lips with lip injections

What to expect on the day of dermal fillers

After your consultation, your face will be cleaned off followed by either a cold compress or a topical anesthetic being applied to your skin to minimize any discomfort you may experience during the injection. In some cases, you may request an injection of local anesthesia if you feel like you may not be able to handle the needle used for the injection. Next, some temporary markings will be made in strategic locations as a guide for where the filler will be injected.

Each injection will only take a few minutes per site as the Provider or Aesthetician will use a very fine needle to insert your dermal filler. After each injection, the result will be gently massaged to evenly distribute the filler and will be assessed, with more filler being added if necessary. Once the targeted areas have been filled, you will need to wait around for about 10 – 20 minutes to ensure you don’t have any reactions to the filler.

What’s the first Step?

The first step in getting Dermal Fillers in Boston is to contact your nearest SkinHealth Centers location and schedule an appointment with a member of our Aesthetics team. When you come in, you will consult with the attending physician and discuss what your goals are from your Dermal Filler treatment. You will also be able to ask questions about the different options that we provide and discover which one is best for you. You will have the area you’re looking to treat examined and you will be asked questions about your medical history. After everything has been discussed, a custom treatment plan will be created for you and if you agree with the plan, you will be able to get your dermal filler injections immediately after. If for whatever reason you would like to reschedule for another day and time, our Patient Coordinator will be more than happy to assist you with that.

Once you are given the “OK” to leave, you can return to your normal routine. You should do your best to avoid sunlight, but most importantly, avoid touching your face, especially during the first 24 – 48 hours after your treatment. If you manipulate the filler too much, it has the potential to migrate to other areas, giving an unwanted and uneven appearance.

You can expect to have an “overfilled” appearance that will subside over the next few days, as well as potential lumps or hard areas from the filler. You will most likely have some swelling or bruising occur that can range from mild to severe, or you might experience some temporary redness or soreness.

Most of these conditions can be alleviated with some topical icing and light massaging and should improve within a matter of hours or a few days. If you do experience any pain, please contact your nearest SkinHealth Center and inform them of it immediately.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of Dermal Fillers in Boston is based on various factors, including which dermal filler you use and how much of it is used to meet your goals. After your consultation and a treatment plan are made for you, you will be provided with a breakdown of the entire cost of your procedure.
